Peppermint Essential Oils
As a first time mother, a lot of priorities change such as daily routine, workload, taking care of chores, eating habits and possibly our health. It is a big adjustment from simply taking care of yourself to shifting focus on the needs of our child. What happens if we suddenly don’t feel well? What do we do when we suddenly have headaches, muscle pain or sinusitis? For those who are able, they can run to their nearest doctor or take medicine. For those who are lucky, they have someone else to help out while not feeling well and have a few hours to rest.
But what if you don’t have time or are just not physically able to move or travel yet? We look for instant or temporary relief right? Just to at least ease or make our condition bearable. There are a lot of natural remedies out there but something worth considering is to use Peppermint Oil.
Peppermint Oil is a cross between watermint and spearmint. The name may certainly not be new to us but here’s a list of when and how to use Peppermint Oils especially for the busy mothers out there.
1. Headache relief
Due to its cooling properties it can soothe and relieve that headache in just a few minutes. This can be used by applying onto your temples, forehead or even at the back part of your neck.
2. Muscle pain relief
The Menthol content of Peppermint can soothe muscles and relax those specific tired areas. Rub and massage lightly onto the affected areas and wait for a few minutes to feel the relief.
3. Allergy relief
Due to the anti-inflammatory properties of Peppermint Oil, it can soothe and clear out those nosy allergens around you.
4. Energy booster
When we have so much to do for the day, we can pick up this oil to liven our senses. It’s aroma can definitely wake you up and give you some boost for the day. Just place 1-2 drops at your fingertips and rub against your temples. You are good to go!
5. Sinus relief
Peppermint Oil can help clear those airways due to its anti-inflammatory and expectorant actions.
6. Bug repellant
Keep those spiders, mosquitoes and other bugs away from you and your children by placing drops of the oil on pieces of cotton and place them around the house where there are likely to be insects. They dislike the potent scent of Peppermint which is why this is an effective insect repellant.
Peppermint is always favored in massage oils due to its soothing components. You can add Lavender oil as well to further make your experience a calming one. If you want further pampering, you may add a few drops to your shampoo and have your daily routine a more pleasurable one.
8. Stress relief
Have you ever wondered how those massages can suddenly relax you even if you’ve just gone in for a few minutes? Of course it’s the cooling and relaxing capabilities of Peppermint oil that’s likely been infused into your massage oil. So the next time you feel stressed, don’t hesitate to rub some onto your shoulders or ask someone to put a few drops on your back.
9. Improve dry skin
Whether it’s your feet or other parts of your body that you find dry, pick up your Peppermint oil can improve that dull and dry skin of yours. Just add a few drops to your non-scented lotion and gently rub into skin. As for anything that’s newly applied to our skin, ensure to test for any possible allergies first though.
10. Minty flavor
Have you heard of the Black Bean Brownie recipe? You can make this healthy snack and add an extra pop of flavor by putting a few drops of Peppermint Oil.
There are a lot of other oils that can also be combined with Peppermint Oil. You just have to find the right blend for yourself in terms of aroma and healing capabilities.
